SEO – as we all already know is Search Engine Optimization.In very simple terms, it is a ongoing process where you make your website/blog search engine friendly.Search engine friendly here can mean many things.Page rank is only one among those factors.The ultimate purpose of SEO is obviously to get top search engine positions and results for certain keywords that are essentially associated with their niche.

Lets take an example here.Assume that this site of mine called Technowpedia wants to get top results and positions is search engines like google.The first thing that i will have to decide before thinking of SEO is for what keywords do i need to rank top on the search engine.As this site is a Web Technology related site, it would be obviously sensible to think for ranking on keywords like “software” , ” computer gadgets” and so on.

If a user types “software” in google and the very first result in Technowpedia.com, this is what we need to achieve.I wouldn’t be happy if someone types “SSN” or any other insensible and low profile term and my websites throws up as the first result.

What are keywords?

Though technical competence is a must in any field, as a webmaster you will also think on the lines of what a normal person who wants to find things on the Internet will think.The keywords that you would like to work on for getting top results for your site have to be realistic and sensible.

If an average user had to buy a computer online, the search terms he would probably use would be:

computer online
online computer sale
computer sales online
buy computer online
where to buy computer online and so on.

So, we need to study those things before optimizing our site for best results.
